Good to know: contents vary from batch to batch.

To keep the price of this box low, we source deadstock fabric, which means fabric that’s been discontinued or left over from larger orders. Because of that, the fabrics you receive will change from batch to batch. We also get great prices on our tools, and if our retailer is out of stock, we grab the best available option at that time, so brands and styles may vary as well.

What won’t change is what you get: every box includes the fabrics, threads, paper patterns, and tools you need for your quests, chosen to match the course.

Unfortunately, US import duties and customs fees may still apply, so an additional charge of approximately $27.42 CAD will be required upon delivery. Please keep this in mind when placing your order!

Return and refund policy

The Skillbox

We want you to love your adventure! If the Skillbox isn’t for you, you can return it within 30 days of delivery for a refund, as long as everything is complete and intact. That means all tools are unopened, the fabrics are unused, and everything is in the same condition we sent it. To start a return, email us at ndlwrkshop@gmail.com with your order number. We’ll send you a prepaid return shipping label. Once your return arrives and we’ve checked it, we’ll refund you to your original payment method within 7 business days. Original shipping costs are non-refundable. 

If a tool has been opened or a fabric has been cut, washed, or used, we’re not able to accept the return. 

Damaged or incorrect items

If something arrives broken, missing, or not as ordered, contact us within 14 days of delivery with your order number and a photo. We’ll replace it or refund you for the price of the item.

Before you open a dispute with your bank

Is something not right? Message us first! We reply quickly and can usually sort it out faster than a bank dispute can. It also saves everyone a lot of stress.

Cosplay Pattern FAQ: Cut, Sew, and Conquer!

How do I download my digital product from Shopify?

Once you've completed your purchase, you should receive an email with a download link. Alternatively, you can log into your Shopify account, go to "My Orders," and click on the order with the digital product. There will be an option to download the product directly from the order details.

I can't download my patterns through the platform, what do I do?

Please send us a message through your order or with your order number, as well as your email address. We will send you copies of the pattern within 24 hours.

How do I print my sewing pattern at 100% scale?

To print your pattern at 100% scale, first ensure your printer settings are set to print without scaling or resizing (usually under "Page Setup" or "Print Settings"). Select "Actual Size" or "No Scaling" in the options. Make sure to check the test square included in the pattern to verify the scale.

Do you include the seam allowance in your patterns?

Yes, our patterns include a seam allowance of 1 cm (or approximately 3/8 of an inch), unless otherwise noted in the pattern description

What is an overlock?

An overlock is a type of stitch commonly used to finish raw fabric edges to prevent fraying. Overlock stitching is usually done with an overlock machine (often called a serger) and is often seen in ready-to-wear garments for a clean, professional finish.

What is a woven fabric?

Woven fabric is made by interlacing two sets of yarns at right angles to each other (warp and weft). This fabric is typically less stretchy than knit fabric and is often used for structured garments like shirts, pants, and jackets.

What is a knit fabric?

Knit fabric is made by interlocking loops of yarn, giving it more stretch and flexibility than woven fabric. It’s commonly used for garments that need a stretchy fit, such as t-shirts, leggings, and sweaters.

Why can’t I use a woven fabric on a knit sewing pattern, and vice versa?

  • Using a woven fabric on a knit sewing pattern: Knit patterns are designed with fabric stretch in mind. Woven fabrics do not have the inherent elasticity that knits do. If you use a woven fabric for a knit pattern, the garment will likely not fit properly. You may experience tightness or discomfort, and the garment may lack the desired drape or movement, especially in areas like the shoulders or waist. Additionally, the seams may not stretch as needed, causing the garment to pull or distort.

  • Using a knit fabric on a woven sewing pattern: Woven patterns are designed for fabrics that don’t stretch, so they provide a more structured fit. When using knit fabric, the garment will likely turn out too loose, as the fabric’s stretchability allows it to expand beyond the pattern's intended fit. The pattern’s shaping and structure may not work well with the elasticity of knit fabrics, resulting in a garment that is baggy or unshaped.

  • In short, it's important to match the fabric type to the pattern type to ensure the correct fit, structure, and comfort of your garment

I'm a complete beginner and have never sewn anything before, can I make this full costume by myself?

Yes, you totally can! But be patient and kind with yourself. Sewing and crafting are a learning process. Start by searching for online tutorials, using solid patterns, making mockups, and doing fabric tests before cutting into your final material. You won’t get everything right the first time, and that’s completely okay! It’s all part of the process. If you have the will and commitment, you should be able to do it. Just take your time, follow the instructions carefully, and enjoy the journey!

Do you have projector file patterns?

Yes, we offer projector files for our more recent patterns. If a projector file is available, it will be mentioned in the listing description of the pattern.

Why use a projector for sewing?

Using a projector for sewing allows you to project the pattern pieces directly onto your fabric, eliminating the need to print and cut out paper pattern pieces. It saves time, reduces paper waste, and provides an efficient and precise way to cut your fabric.

Do you take on commissions?

Very rarely. Commissions can be extremely time-consuming, and we prefer to focus on creating and offering sewing patterns to our community.

Can I contact you if I'm having any issues understanding the instructions?

Yes, absolutely! We are ALWAYS here to help and strongly encourage you to reach out to us. We all have different ways of learning and understanding instructions, and if something is unclear, PLEASE write to us so we can clarify it for you. We may even update the instructions to make them clearer for everyone.
